Overview
All EU citizen and their family must apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021. The exceptions are if you are an Irish citizen or already have indefinite leave to remain.
If your application is approved you will be granted settled (indefinite leave to remain) or pre-settled status (5 years leave to remain).
When You Can Apply
You can apply now. You must have started living in the UK by 31 December 2020. The deadline for applying is 30 June 2021. You can only apply after this date if there is a good reason.

If Home Office checks show you have been resident in the UK for a period of five years, the Home Office will grant settled status.
Criminal convictions
The Home Office will check you have not committed criminal offences. You will be asked to declare any criminal convictions. Criminal convictions can makes cases more complex.
